Overview

Ignition Dance Company has delivered open dance classes and workshops at BASE Dance Studios since the studio opened. The partnership provides adult dancers with access to culturally rooted dance styles within a professional studio environment.

Classes focus on Afro-diasporic dance forms including Dancehall, Afro-fusion and Hip Hop. Sessions are designed to develop rhythm, movement technique and musicality while also encouraging creativity, confidence and self-expression.

The programme attracts dancers from across London, creating a vibrant and diverse community within the studio.
 

Participants

Classes typically attract 25–35 participants per session, with dancers coming from a range of backgrounds including beginner, intermediate and professional levels.

The sessions provide a welcoming environment where participants can train, connect with other dancers and develop their skills.
 

Programme delivery 

Ignition Dance delivers energetic open classes and workshops as part of BASE’s studio timetable and training opportunities.

Sessions focus on:

* Dancehall foundations and technique

* Cultural context behind the dance styles

Ignition Dance has also contributed to the BASE Dance Experience, delivering workshops that bring authentic Afro-Caribbean dance styles into the studio’s programme.
